DREAM

COMMENTS

There are a lot of little islands. On the islands, my classes take place, each class on one island. I have to swim from island to island in order to get to my classes. I feel a bit uneasy, because it is so strenuous and hard to get to all of the classes at the right time. At a certain time in the evening, the ‘university’ closes, and I have to swim back to a kind of base.

Dear Phyllis

Right now, I am  wondering if I am really able to teach Religious Education later in School. I am worried about not knowing a lot. I like my Theology classes at (the) University, but can I really teach it, especially in grade 11, 12 and 13?

I like that the dream can also be positive and be a sign of my spiritual path. That is encouraging. That shows me that I am on the right way after all.

I am really astonished ! Well, thank you Phyllis!

UNIVERSITY ISLAND - DREAM READING SUMMARY

---

Over-all, the dream focuses on a spiritual education and path, represented by the ocean (expansive body of water, free-flowing, not restricted) and island ( station) symbols connected to a University  (universal) ‘class’ theme, but also comments about the level of  anxiety experienced as a student in reality,  because of the arduous nature of the swim.  However, note how encouragement is provided despite a concern about being able to go the distance, because the swimmer arrives on time for all of the classes and completes the swim.

There is not a question about the subject matter or location of the classes, so the swimmer is already informed about the spiritual education, represented by the ocean university. The only issue appears to be how hard it is to get to each of the classes on time (represented by each island). Am I on time, where I am supposed to be? But notice how the dream is also an affirmation for the spiritual issues.

It  addresses the ultimate concern about where the swimmer is going to land, to be stationed. As in, one’s ‘station’ in life, another definition of ‘class’.  The meaning of 'island' is also important on more than one level, because this 'term' is used in several industries to denote a 'service station' ... as in, the buffet 'island' in a restaurant, or the pump 'island' in a gas station.   These are places we get  the fuel that we need to keep going in a journey.   Note how the swimmer gets what she needs to get through the journey, as hard as it is to attend (another word for service) so many classes.

So, although the dream confirms what the swimmer already knows .... that it is not an easy journey,  represented by the difficulty in the swim, and not a path that belongs to anyone else, represented by the individual nature of the classes and the swim - it is also a dream of encouragement, because you are, in fact, swimming, and already know the route.    The dream comes as a message of affirmation during a very stressful 'exam' time to let you know that 'spiritual education' is a process, just like any other school, and that you are on time for this mission, and 'service' call ... you know where you are going, because you know where you are going in the dream, but more importantly  you complete the swim!

You get to all of the assigned classes on time, (meaning you get where you are supposed to be and don't 'miss' any deadlines , and get all the fuel you need to get there...    It is why the University closes at a specific time. To remind you that you are not expected to do it all at once, and have to make time for yourself too!
