MOMS
AND MINUETS
Today, moms rule. And get to be served on silver platters, while little ones they love laugh and giggle as they put creative cards and flowers and bowls of cereal on breakfast trays to deliver to mom in bed. And we applaud them with dramatic flare from the bedrooms, offices and studies we call home. It is mother's day. Our day. One moment and breath in the year we can call our own. So many roles and shoes we fill on any given day or second in a child's life. Greater still, the expectations that we can pull it off! Be everything and everyone they need us to be on whim, with no preparation or training or guided resource most of the time, except our own hearts and the voice of Love, resonating true, through every fiber of our being. These are the experiences that forge and test us all ... push us in directions we never thought we were capable of going, but for Faith in the eyes of the child who believes ... And they see it all, don't they? At our best and all the times in between, when we think they do not notice how hard it is to keep smiling, to juggle all of those tasks and expectations and yet somehow keep enough encouragement in reserve to fuel one more smile, one more adoring look, one more promise that "Yes, sweetheart. It will be Ok. You're OK. I promise." And for every 'mom' in the wings in non-traditional shoes who takes on the role of caregiver and provider because it is the compelling voice and soul of a child that guides them, today, too, belongs to you, because you are the beacon giving Light and Life to tender souls everywhere ... Oh, such a delicate dance, this minuet we do as mothers and 'moms' - moving in such carefully orchestrated dimensions of life with these children, young and old to whom we are forever bound and inextricably linked in imprint and integrity of experience. Today, we honor the rank of 'mom' as an award well-achieved, and smile when little hands reach up to Hallmark shelves to 'choose out' (the card) as my little one says - the One, engraved, that says it all .... Love.
